More about Shipwreck Bay surfspot

This would be NZ's most iconic wave if Raglan didn't exist. Shipwreck Bay ('Wreck Bay or Shippies) is perfectly angled to get SW swell on the wrap but not be ruffled by the following wind. Although it catches the least swell in the daisy chain of lefthand points and is a mellower ride over sandbars, it still holds pristine peelers of real quality, attracting both rippers and improvers to a long, crowd-soaking line-up.

Since it is the closest wave to the car park and camping and being the most accessible wave often makes it the most crowded. The rip is usually a factor.
