Skirza surf guide
Surf: Skirza is the most northerly spot on the east coast, enticing any E swell onto a scruffy, strata of reef. Classic, long lefthanders tour the reef, breaking up into different sections on a NE or walling up nicely with a straighter SE swell.
Environment: Park considerately in the village, paddle out through the harbour.
Surf: General: This classic left point only wakes when the north shore is maxing out in winter's large northerly and northeasterly swells. The long, south facing boulder point fires off barreling lefts that can peel for over two hundred meters. The fast, heavy waves, tricky access, plus rock / boulder bottom and remoteness of the spot means best left to the experts. There is only a tiny parking spot here - so park respectfully.
Tides: Mid tide.
Size: Waist high to overhead.
Wind: N to NW
Swell: N to NE
Bottom: Bouldery and rocky.
Paddling: Long paddles and rips, hard work in big swells.
Spot Rating: Fickle but excellent, rarely surfed due to consistent quality of nearby breaks.
Access: Tiny parking area at Freswick harbour. Park respectfully as you are virtually in someone's garden!
Crowds: Crowd Factor: Small crowds.
Local Vibe: Friendly.
Environment: Clean.
Hazards: Rocks, tricky exit.
Season: Big winter storms raging December - February set it alight.
