Overview
Tang is a right-hand point that breaks off a hammerhead peninsula about 2 km from the village. A large offshore sandbank blocks the swell that would otherwise reach the beach, so the point is where the surf is.
When It Works
The point draws swell from southeast through south, with south swell the best match. It breaks over a mix of uneven reef and sand, and holds a working range from 0.6 m / 2 ft to 2.4 m / 8 ft.
Wind and Tide
Look for north offshore wind. The point works across low, mid, and high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
The wave suits intermediate surfers.
Access
Boats fill the village, but their operators tend to stick to their routine rather than run curious surfers out to the rights off the peninsula.
