Overview
Uli’s is a coral reef break near Rabbit Island, also known as Blackburn Island, that peels both left and right. It sits over live coral, so it rewards a bit of care in the water, and it holds a wide swell window that keeps waves coming when other setups go quiet.
When It Works
The reef draws swell from south through west-southwest to northwest, with southwest swell the best match for the peak. It works from 0.9 m / 3 ft to 2.4 m / 8 ft, so there is plenty of room between the small days and the days it gets serious. Consistency is moderate, but the width of that swell window means worthwhile windows turn up regularly.
Wind and Tide
Look for northeast offshore wind to clean up the faces. The reef works around mid and high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
Intermediate surfers will get the most out of it, with both lefts and rights on offer. The lineup stays fairly quiet, so you can usually find your own corner of the reef.
Access
Taking a boat is the easy option. Otherwise it is a long paddle out from Far Rocks, and there is no channel to make life simple, so dodging sets on the way out takes some timing.
