Aunu'u surf guide

Aunu'u is a surf spot located on Aunu’u Island, which can be reached by a quick 15-minute ferry ride from Auíasi. The spot is known for its laid-back atmosphere and unique waves, making it a nice spot to explore for surfers looking for a change from the usual breaks. Aunu'u is primarily a left-hand break, with a section that offers decent shelter from the trade winds, especially in the last part of the wave.

The surf at Aunu'u can be quite enjoyable, especially when the right swell comes in. The optimal swell direction is from the south, and it handles swell sizes up to around 3 ft (about 0.9 meters). You can also catch swells from the southeast and southwest. The waves tend to break over live coral, so be cautious. You can expect some good barrels on the outside, but as the wave approaches the harbor, it gets smaller and turns into more manageable shoulders. This spot is best suited for experts, especially on the outside sections, while the end section is a bit more beginner-friendly, though it remains shallow.

Aunu'u works best with mid to high tide, and if you're looking for the best conditions, wind blowing from the east is ideal. Keep in mind that this spot is not for everyone, as the outside can be challenging, but it definitely offers some moments of fun when the surf is right.
