More about Balandra surfspot

Down the beach from Balandra fishing depot is an exposed, powerful, all tides beachbreak. Handles N–NE–E swells ranging from 2-10ft (0.5-3m) and is ultra consistent. Nearby Saline Bay has an inner reef and an outer island break with N wind protection.

General: Located on the East Coast of Trinidad, Balandra Bay could be one of the best waves on the island. Plagued by east-northeast trade winds, even that does not hinder this wave if the sandbars are right.

Known locally as "Rough Side," this wave is not unlike Soup Bowls on neighboring Barbados. The most consistent wave in Trinidad, it usually has some sort of wave to ride even when everywhere else is flat. Tides: Any depending on the size. Size: Head high-overhead Wind: Northwest or West Swell: N, NE, ENE Bottom: Sand and rocks Paddling: Depends on the swell -- more work as it gets bigger. Spot Rating: Consistent but generally plagued with onshore winds.

Intermediate to advanced

Park on the fishing depot and walk over past the coconut trees.

Pretty consistent through the year.

Crowd Factor: Normally not an issue. Local Vibe: Mellow. Be cool and keep it that way.

Probably a bit too strong for beginners.

Some issues.

Not much.
