Sunset Rights surf guide

Sunset Rights is located halfway down the beach towards Sunset Left. It’s a spot that offers a somewhat shallow, hollow right-hander, making it a unique destination for surfers. This wave doesn’t often reach heights above head high, so it can be a bit underwhelming if you're looking for big action. However, it only comes alive when the conditions are right, typically when Mount Irvine and Sunset Left are breaking huge. It’s definitely a hidden gem, but it doesn’t always deliver.

The surf at Sunset Rights works best with a north or northeast swell, handling sizes around 3ft (about 0.9 meters) nicely. The wave breaks over an uneven reef and tends to favor a right direction. Low to mid tide is preferred, but you might find some fun waves at high tide, too. For the best experience, aim for a southeast wind, as it helps the waves form better and gives you a cleaner ride.

If you’re planning to surf here, remember that it’s a rare occasion when you’ll find the waves firing, but when they do, it can be pretty enjoyable. Just keep in mind that the conditions can change quickly, so it helps to keep an eye on the surf reports. Enjoy your time out there!
