Bombo is a surf spot that’s pretty easy to access from the road. If you find it flat, it’s usually not worth sticking around. This place can change a lot, with banks at each end breaking hard and hollow when conditions are right. Be prepared for potential crowds and some strong rips, so keep an eye on the surf and make a plan.
The best swell direction for Bombo is from the NorthEast, but it can also handle swells from the South. The spot works well when the swell is around 1ft (approximately 0.3 meters) and breaks over sand. You’ll find both left and right waves here, making it a mixed bag depending on the day. Ideally, visit when the wind is coming from the NorthWest and at low, mid, or high tide. It’s generally suited for intermediate surfers, so if you’re just starting out, you might want to wait until you’ve got more experience under your belt.
Locals here can sometimes be a bit touchy, so it’s good to stay respectful in the water. If you’re looking for a specific spot to check out, there's a left at the north end called Pump Rock that some surfers prefer. Just keep in mind how the day is shaping up and be ready for whatever Bombo throws at you.
