Redsands is a surf spot that attracts a mix of surfers due to its fairly consistent waves. It's known for its intimidating reef peak that can really generate some powerful surf conditions, making it a popular choice for those looking to challenge themselves in the water. While the spot can produce solid waves, don’t expect it to be perfect every day. Crowds are common here, so prepare for some competition in the lineup.
This spot works best with an east swell direction, but it can also handle swells coming from the northeast and southeast. Waves usually start to build from around 3 feet (0.9 meters), and they break over an uneven reef. Here, you can find both right and left-handed waves, but be ready for some heavy barrels on the right side. The optimal conditions come during mid to high tide and when the wind comes from the southwest. It’s definitely a place for expert surfers, as mastering the drop here is essential.
While Redsands offers a fun challenge, it's important to note that there are also other spots nearby if you’re looking for a change. Shallows and Shellharbour South Beach feature additional reefs you can check out when the conditions don't quite align at Redsands.
