Dakhla surf guide
Dakhla is a surf spot located just above the Tropic of Cancer in Western Sahara. It's a straightforward destination for surfers looking for consistent waves. The area features a long 40 km peninsula with various surf locations, so you won't have to wander too far to find a good break. Accommodations are readily available, making it easy for surfers to settle in. One interesting spot, the 240-step lighthouse, offers panoramic views of the coastline.
The surf here is pretty varied, catering mostly to intermediate surfers. The optimal swell direction is Northwest, which works well with swell sizes around 2 ft (0.6 meters). You’ll find breaks over uneven reef and sand, with wave types that include both beach and point breaks. Waves generally roll in from the left and right, so there's some good variety. The ideal wind direction for surfing is Southeast, and it’s possible to surf at all tide heights: low, mid, and high.
While places like Hansouane and Pointe de l’Or offer decent beach breaks, Ponta Negra has been recognized for its potential, even being considered for an international bodyboard contest. The surf scene here is definitely worth checking out, but it's good to keep in mind that the best conditions can vary.
