Galhetas surf guide

Galhetas is a surf spot located near Praia das Asturias, known for its classic righthand pointbreak. It works best when there’s an East or big Southeast swell wrapping around Ponta das Galhetas. This spot can be inconsistent, so don’t expect it to break all the time; when it does, it can get pretty crowded, so you might have to share the waves with others.

The surf really comes alive when the swell is around 3ft (about 0.9 meters) and conditions are right. The waves typically break over a mix of boulders and sand, creating some varied texture in the water. The right-handed peel is what surfers look forward to, but sometimes you can catch a left on the inside. For the best sessions, aim for the tide to be either low, mid, or high, and a southwest wind will help keep things clean. This spot is better suited for intermediate surfers who can handle the sometimes choppy conditions and occasional crowds.

When you’re there, be prepared for the spot to be busy, especially when it’s finally firing. It might take some patience to wait for the right swell, but if you hit it right, you can enjoy some solid rides across the sandy expanse of the beach. Just keep an eye on the crowd, as it can get packed quickly once the waves start rolling in.
