Gwendrez surf guide

Gwendrez is a surf spot located near Plouhinec. It is known for its beach break, which has a mix of uneven reef and sand. The area has gained some attention, especially after bodyboarders were seen riding massive 10-foot barrels, but it’s worth noting that these perfect conditions don't happen all the time. Often, the waves here can close out, making it a tricky spot to surf. The location benefits from the right swell direction coming from the southwest, as well as northwest swells, making it a decent option when the conditions align.

The surf at Gwendrez can handle swell sizes starting from about 1 foot (0.3 meters) up to overhead, but when it gets big, currents and rips can become hazardous for less experienced surfers. It works best at low to mid tide, with preferable wind coming from the northeast. You can find both left and right waves here, with some sections that can wall up nicely and offer tube potential. For intermediates looking to challenge themselves, there are some fun places to ride, but it’s essential to know your limits when it picks up.

Just a heads up, there’s a Paleolithic site nearby, which adds a touch of history to the area, but it might not be the main draw for surfers. If you decide to check out Gwendrez, make sure you're prepared for some variable conditions and always keep an eye on the tide and wind directions.
