Hector's River is a surf spot located along the scenic coastline that gives surfers a mix of fun lefts and rights over a sandy reef. It's definitely not the easiest place to reach, as you'll need to walk down a steep 100ft (30m) cliff to get to the water. The view from the lookout is nice, but keep in mind that the journey down requires some effort.
The surf here can be decent, especially when the swell is coming from the NorthEast or SouthEast. It handles swell sizes around 2ft (0.6m) and breaks over both rock ledges and sand. You can catch both left and right waves, making it a decent spot for those looking to mix things up on a day out. The best conditions are when the wind is blowing from the SouthWest and during low to mid to high tides. It’s best suited for intermediate surfers, as there can be some tricky sections to navigate.
With medium consistency and no sizable crowd to deal with, Hector's River can be a decent choice for a day of surfing. It’s a nice escape if you're looking for some non-crowded waves in a beautiful setting. Just be prepared for the hike back up after your surf session!
