Holyoke surf guide

Holyoke, located in Beach Haven, is a winding left that breaks off a long jetty. This spot can be pretty fun if the conditions line up, especially during big nor'easters when you can paddle around the jetty and catch some long, lined-up lefts. There's also a smaller left and right that peel off down the beach, which can actually be better when the waves are smaller. The sandbar here shifts all the time, so the surf can vary quite a bit. You never really know what you're going to get.

This spot can handle swell sizes from around 1 meter (3 ft) to 3.6 meters (12 ft) and works best with swells coming from the ENE, E, ESE, SE, and SSE directions. The winds are typically best from the NW and WNW, and you can surf during any tide, but low to mid and mid to high tend to work better depending on the sandbar setup. The bottom is sandy, making it a beach break, and the waves generally break left off the jetty. It's suitable for intermediate to expert surfers, so keep that in mind if you're thinking about hitting it up. A shortboard or fish works well here, but you can also bring a longboard or bodyboard depending on the conditions.

Access to Holyoke is pretty straightforward with some street parking available, making it mostly easy to get to. It can get crowded during the summer and fall, but the crowd factor is much lighter at other times. Just remember to show some respect to the locals, especially on bigger days when things can get a bit heavy. Overall, the vibe is friendly, and the environment is pretty clean. Watch out for groins, crowds, and the occasional inexperienced surfer or tourist during peak season.
