Kilcunda surf guide

Kilcunda is a surf spot located on the mid-east coast, known for being a reliable option when nearby spots like Woolamai are flat. It generally attracts surfers looking for some action, especially when other areas aren't delivering. The access is relatively straightforward, and it’s popular for its consistent wave activity.

This beach break works best with southwest swells and can handle sizes from 1ft (0.3 meters) and up. When swells come from the south or southwest, you can expect some decent waves. It offers both left and right waves, but often tends to favor the lefts. The paddle out can be challenging due to rippy conditions and shifting peaks, so it’s more suited for intermediate surfers. The wind from the northeast is preferred, and it can be surfed throughout low, mid, and high tides. But when it’s too big, the breakdown can become powerful and even a bit dangerous, so be mindful of the conditions.

If you find Kilcunda too crowded or conditions aren’t right, consider heading southeast to Wonthaggi Beach for potentially better waves. It’s a good backup option when the swell isn’t working in your favor.
