Mangamari is a surf spot known for its laid-back vibe and decent waves. Located along a golden sandy beach with a rocky shoreline, it offers a pretty nice setting for surfers looking to catch some fun waves. The area experiences a good amount of swell, especially during the southwest monsoon, making it a go-to spot when conditions are right.
The best waves here break to the right and can peel for up to 800 meters when the conditions are good. You’ll want to look out for south swell, as that's what really gets things rolling. Mangamari can handle swell sizes down to about 0.3 meters (1 ft), which means even smaller days can be fun, especially for beginners. The waves break over rocks and sand, offering a bit of variety. High tide can lead to some quick barrels, while low and mid tides keep things flowing nicely too. The preferred wind direction is from the southwest, which helps to clean up the wave shape.
Although it can get crowded at times, especially when the swell is on point, the spot is generally friendly for surfers of all levels. The sandy bottoms create nice areas for longboarding as well. Just keep in mind that it’s a bit of a trek back to where you started, so be prepared to walk that sandy stretch while dodging some beach obstacles.
