Meanos is a surf spot located beneath the West Head cliffs, offering a wave that many surfers find challenging. It's known for its uneven reef setup and can be a tricky spot, especially when the conditions are right. Access to Meanos is from Golf Links Rd, making it relatively easy to get to, but be prepared for some inconsistency in the surf and the typical crowds that come with a popular location.
This spot really shines with south and southwest swells, handling sizes from about 2ft (0.6m) and up. When the tide's high, the lefts can dish out some nasty waves, demanding a lot of respect from those who take them on. The right waves are a bit easier and can provide a more manageable ride, especially on the inside reform. Meanos is definitely more suited for expert surfers, given its tricky nature and the quality of the waves.
Alongside Meanos, there are a few other spots in the area to check out. Cyril's can produce a solid righthander, especially when the swells are pumping. Just further out on the headland is Gunnery, which serves up uncultured rights that intermediates might find fun in the overhead range. And if you explore around the corner by the Flinders Jetty, Farm can occasionally deliver quality waves when conditions align. Overall, having a good grip on the surf direction and conditions will help you make the most of your time at Meanos.
