Nonura surf guide

Nonura, located near Bayovar, is a surf spot that’s a bit off the beaten path. It can only be accessed by 4WD, which adds to its remoteness. The area mostly relies on camping for accommodation, so don’t expect luxury here. The vibe is laid-back and rugged, perfect for those looking to escape the hustle and bustle. The surf here is notable, but the setting is pretty isolated, which can make for a unique experience.

The surf at Nonura is best when the swell is coming from the Southwest but can also work with swells from the South and Northwest. It starts breaking well at around 5ft (1.5m) and can max out around 10-12ft (3-4m). You’ll find a classic tubular point break that primarily peels to the left, but getting out there can be a workout due to the strong currents. The wave breaks over uneven reef and sand, so be cautious about where you're paddling out. This spot is suited for expert surfers, mainly because of the challenging conditions.

It's good to note that Nonura can sometimes get crowded, especially as more businesses set up shop in the area to attract surfers. Also, recent developments in shellfish farming have altered the sand situation, meaning this wave now requires a bigger swell to really break well. The preferable wind direction is from the Southeast, and it tends to work regardless of the tide—low, mid, or high tides all have their moments. If you’re up for a challenge, Nonura offers a serious wave that you won’t forget.
