North Durras Reef is a surf spot located near the entrance of a lake, offering a quieter experience compared to more crowded beaches. It's a bit of a drive from the highway, but it’s a nice getaway, especially during non-holiday periods when there are fewer people around. The surrounding environment is pretty laid-back, making it a good spot for those looking to escape the hustle and bustle.
The surf at North Durras Reef is generally suited for intermediate surfers. You can find some decent left and right waves here, primarily breaking over uneven reef and sand. The optimal swell direction is from the NorthEast, but it also works with Southeast swells. The spot can handle swell sizes around 3 feet (about 0.9 meters), which can provide fun conditions. For the best experience, aim for low to mid tide, and if the wind is coming from the West, you’ll be in for a good session.
Along the coastline, you’ll find softer peaks at South Durras, particularly near the caravan park and the lake area. These spots can be a nice alternative if you’re looking for something more mellow. Keep in mind that there is a deep channel rip, so be cautious while you're out there.
