North Makarori Reef surf guide

Surf: North Makarori is a long, soft left, great for longboarding. The long flat expanse of reef breaks in most swells at lower tides. Best with any N winds, since SW winds are cross-shore. Directions: From Gisborne town centre drive east on Gladstone Road, onto Wainui Road, State Highway 35, towards Wainui. Continue past Wainui on Moana Road and onto Whangara Road. North Makorori Reef is the point at the northern end of Makorori Beach. Environment: Gets a solid crowd of locals who have the place wired and dominate both the points.
