Piscina surf guide

Piscina is a unique surf spot located inside a US-built military zone. It gets its name from a seawater pool that's built into the rocks next to the break. The vibe here is pretty laid-back, partly because not too many people make the trek due to access limits. This spot offers a left point break that runs along a mix of rock and sand, making it an appealing choice for those looking for some fun waves.

When it comes to surfing at Piscina, it really shines with small to medium swells. The optimal swell direction is from the Southwest, but it also picks up waves coming from the South and West. It handles swell sizes starting from 2 feet (around 0.6 meters) and can break over both boulders and sand. The wave is mostly a left-hander, giving surfers some nice, enjoyable walls to ride. It's best to surf here at low to mid tide, although it can work at high tide too. For those who are just starting out, this spot is suitable for beginners, especially when the conditions are right.

Access can be somewhat tricky since you have to go through checkpoints and show ID, which keeps the crowds down. If you're coming from Lobitos, you can walk along the beach to get here. Just keep in mind that the surf can vary quite a bit with swell sizes and tides, so it's worth checking the conditions before heading out.
