Punta Restin is a pretty isolated surf spot that you’ll find down the coast. It’s not very crowded most of the time, making it a good option if you want some space. The waves here get a consistent push thanks to various swells, but you should know that the conditions can be a bit tricky to read. The location has its charm, yet it's important to be aware that the wind can really spoil the fun on certain days.
This spot works best with south-west swells, but you can also catch some action with south and west swells. It handles sizes starting from around 2 feet (about 0.6 meters), which can build up nicely. The waves typically break over an uneven reef and sand, creating left points that can be fun to ride. Low, mid, and high tides all offer decent opportunities, but if you can get a day with east winds, you’ll have much better conditions overall. Keep in mind that it’s more suited for intermediate surfers, especially when the waves have a bit more power.
One thing that’s important to note is that Punta Restin offers a unique vibe due to its relatively remote location. Even though the Panama currents might affect the water temperature, you'll find it around 2°-3°c (5°-7°F) colder than nearby Mancora, making it a bit on the chilly side. Just be ready to deal with those pesky winds and the occasional chaotic line-up when you're out there.
