Surf: Playa Ballena is one of the best beginners waves in the area thanks to gently rolling, long rides. Also check the uncrowded beaches of Piñuela, Ventanas, Tortuga rivermouth or get a boat in Ojochal (or walk) to Terraba rivermouth, a perfect peeling left. Environment: Marino Ballena is a stop on the humpback whales migratory routes, and during the winter months, Oct-Mar, it’s common to see mother whales, their babies, and adult males breeching the surface.
