Punta Uvita surf guide

Punta Uvita is located on the southern Pacific coast of Costa Rica and features a unique whale tail-shaped point that serves as the gateway to Marino Ballena National Park. This area is known for its beautiful surroundings and is one of only two marine parks in the country. The point, along with some nearby offshore islands, helps to filter swells and provides a somewhat sheltered environment for surfers looking to catch waves.

The surf here works well with swells coming from the south and southwest, handling sizes starting from around 2 feet (0.6 meters). You can expect beach breaks that offer both left and right waves, making it a versatile spot for surfers of different skill levels. The preferred wind direction is northeast, and the waves break nicely over sand, which is great for beginners. The spot is surfable at low, mid, and high tide, so you have a good range of options depending on the conditions.

Access to Punta Uvita is via the second access road in the park, and there’s a small entrance fee that helps in keeping the crowds relatively low compared to other nearby spots. This place has facilities within the park and is popular among local surf schools, making it a good spot for those looking to improve their skills in a friendly environment.
