Porthcawl - The Point surf guide

Porthcawl - The Point is a right point break located between Sandy Bay and Trecco Bay, just south of the town. This spot can offer some fun waves under the right conditions. Surfing here usually requires a bit of commitment since it’s mainly for more experienced surfers. The access is straightforward, as you can get to it through the nearby caravan park.

The Point needs some solid swell to really shine, ideally from the SouthWest or West, and it tends to handle swell sizes well at around 3 feet (about 1 meter). When the waves turn on, expect a fast, sucky drop that quickly mellows into a long wall, making it a unique ride. The best wind direction is from the NorthEast, and it works best around high tide. Keep in mind that the local line-up can get busy when the surf is good, so be prepared for that.

If you’re planning to surf here, make sure to check the swell conditions before you go. This spot is definitely meant for advanced surfers, so if you’re still working on your skills, it might be a good idea to hit up other breaks first. Enjoy the waves at Porthcawl - The Point!
