Porto Ferro is a surf spot located in a beautiful bay, about 18km northwest of Alghero. It’s known for being quite consistent, typically offering waves in most swell conditions. The setting is scenic, making it a nice place to hang out when you’re not in the water.
The surf here works best with a northwest swell, but it can also handle swells from the southwest and north. The waves generally break over sand and come in at sizes from around 2ft (0.6m) and up. You’ll find both left and right waves, which is great if you’re looking to mix things up. Porto Ferro is more suited for intermediate surfers, as the waves can get a bit tricky at times. It’s best to hit the water with preferable winds coming from the east, and you can surf during low, mid, or high tides.
The currents can be strong, so keep that in mind when you’re out there. The vibe is laid-back, and since it’s a beach break, you can find different peaks to surf, giving you options based on your skill level and the changing conditions.
