Prainha surf guide

Prainha is a surf spot that's tucked away after a 40-minute trek through the forest. Even with the hike, it draws in crowds, so don’t expect to have the waves all to yourself. The beach has a lush and green backdrop, giving it a nice vibe, but keep in mind that there are no facilities around, so it’s all about the surf and the scenery here.

This spot works best with a NorthEast swell and can handle sizes from about 1ft (0.3m) up to some decent heights. The waves can be steep and punchy, especially the lefts that break off the rocks at the north end when the conditions are right. You can also find some right-handers here. Prainha usually maintains a paddling channel at either end, which is helpful for getting back out. It’s good for intermediate surfers looking to challenge themselves, and you’ll want to check the wind direction from the west for the best conditions. It is known to break over sand, and it works for low, mid, and high tides.

Since Prainha is a bit off the beaten path, it offers a more natural and untouched surfing experience. Remember that the spot can get crowded, especially on good days, so timing your visit is key. Don't forget to bring your essentials, since you won’t find any shops nearby to grab anything last minute.
