Quepos Jetty surf guide

Quepos Jetty is located in Costa Rica and was once known for its point break that peeled nicely into the river mouth. The construction of the Pez Vela marina had many thinking it would ruin the waves, but surprisingly, the new harbor wall and the river's exit have created a different kind of wave. It’s now a spot that draws surfers looking for something different.

The wave tends to be mushy and slow, working best for longboards when it’s around waist to chest high (about 1 to 1.5 meters). If the swell picks up and hits bigger sizes, you can expect it to peel fast, providing some fun barrel sections on the inside. The optimal swell direction is Southwest, but it also handles South and West swells pretty well. To catch the best waves, a lower tide is preferable, and it’s mainly good for intermediate surfers. The wave breaks over sand and has a left direction, so be ready to ride that way. Dawn usually brings the best conditions, especially with an East wind.

Keep in mind that this spot is known to handle swell sizes around 3 feet (about 0.9 meters). Though it's mostly about getting the right swell, strong Southwest to West swells get the best results. Additionally, there’s a weak beach break that can work on bigger South swells, just don’t expect it to be as consistent as the jetty itself.
