Secrets surf guide

Secrets, also known as Horseshoe Cove, is located at the north end of Salt Point State Park. It's a popular spot for surfers looking to catch some waves, especially when the south winds are blowing. Although the name suggests it's a hidden gem, it's quite the opposite. On good days, you'll find plenty of surfers out in the water, so it's not exactly a secret anymore. The spot is best for surfing during winter swells and tends to work better at low tide.

This surf break is a lefthand point that shines when the swell is coming from the south or north. It can handle swell sizes up to 6 feet (about 1.8 meters). When there’s a larger west swell, you can expect Secrets to really come alive, though it may also be prone to some challenging currents. The take-off zone is small, and you should keep an eye out for submerged rocks, so paddling out requires some care. The ideal wind is from the southeast, so time your visits accordingly to make the most of your session.

If you're looking for solid waves in Sonoma, Secrets is often considered one of the best spots north of Salmon Creek, assuming the Russian Rivermouth is not firing that day. It's a good place to hang out and camp nearby, making it convenient for those who want to enjoy a weekend of surfing.
