Smith's surf guide
Surf: Smith's Beach is blessed with various beachbreak peaks and a rolling left off the point in big SW swells. However, the main event is the reef peak that draws in most swells and unfurls some beautiful, righthand barrels across the first section before hitting the edge of the sandy channel for hacks and a final inside hit or punt in the shorebreak. The left is far less challenging, angling down the reef with lumbering predictability, but it will handle more size than the right. Low tide is doable when small, but it really needs mid to high when overhead. Not as shallow as Supers and it has a little hook for early entry before it folds on the ledge. Some S wind protection, which gets better further down the beach at Nachos.
Environment: Another stretch of pristine coast earmarked for development. Gunyulgup Brook drains across the centre of the beach and can have an effect on the sandbars. There can be some rips when big.
