Smith's surf guide

Smith's is a surf spot located along a stretch of pristine coast. This beach features a mix of beachbreak peaks with a notable reef peak that catches most swells. With its scenic views and laid-back vibe, it provides a decent surf experience, especially for those looking to catch some waves without the crowds you might find at more popular spots.

The surf here is mainly focused on the reef peak, which draws in SouthWest swells and starts to really work when the size is overhead (around 2ft to 3.5ft or 0.6m to 1.1m). The right-hand barrels are the highlight, rolling off the peak with nice, clean rides before hitting the sandy channel and allowing for some fun finishing moves in the shorebreak. While the left does exist, it tends to be less exciting and more predictable; it's still a good option, especially on larger days since it can handle more size. For best results, aim for mid to high tide as it really brings out the best of what Smith's has to offer. The spot can handle some rips at times when the surf is big, so just keep an eye out.

If you're looking to surf here, intermediate surfers will feel right at home. The nice thing about Smith's is that it's not as shallow as some other spots, like Supers, making it a bit more forgiving. The SouthEast winds provide some protection, especially further down the beach where it gets even better. Gunyulgup Brook runs across the center of the beach, which has been known to affect the sandbars from time to time. Overall, Smith's serves up a mix of waves that can satisfy those wanting to enjoy a good session.
