The Quarry is a surfing spot located near the Port of Kemaman. This area used to be famous for its world-class lefts, especially before the construction of two rock jetties in 2002, which split the spot into two parts. Now, surfers can find a decent wave here with a popular point break section on the inside that wraps nicely, along with a shorter left off the tip of one of the jetties. There are also some rights to the south that can be worth checking out.
When it comes to the surf itself, The Quarry works best with a north-east swell coming in. It can handle swell sizes starting from about 2 feet (0.6 meters) and responds well to swells from the north and east. The most enjoyable waves are typically lefts, but don’t underestimate those rights to the south, either. The waves break over an uneven reef, which makes it a bit tricky, so it’s better suited for intermediate surfers. If you're planning to surf here, keep in mind that west winds are preferable, and the waves can be good at low, mid, and high tide.
The Quarry's surf scene can get busy at times, especially since it's a popular spot among locals. Be prepared for some company out in the water. It’s a good place to practice and improve your skills while enjoying the atmosphere.
