Tourmaline surf guide

Tourmaline is located at the end of Tourmaline Street, providing ample free parking and a relaxed atmosphere. It's a favorite spot for a mixed crowd, including longboarders and beginners. Unlike the hectic scene at nearby Crystal Pier, Tourmaline offers a more laid-back vibe where surfers can hang out, share stories, and enjoy beautiful sunsets. The beach here is a social hub for the surfing community, making it a chill spot to catch some waves.

The surf here is best with SouthWest swells and tends to perform well at mid to high tides. Waves can range from about waist high (1 meter) to head high (3 meters) and can handle swell sizes up to around 12 feet (3.6 meters). You can ride lefts and rights over sand, making it ideal for fish, funboards, and longboards. Paddling is usually easy, so itโ€™s a great spot for beginners, but watch out for it getting packed, especially during summer. The best season for surfing here is November through February, but it works throughout the year.

While Tourmaline is perfect for longboard cruising, be cautious if you're on a shortboard aiming to catch some tricky waves. The local vibe is generally mellow, but it's good to keep an eye out for a few hazards, like getting hit by a loose board. Overall, it's a solid choice for those looking to enjoy a mellow surf session with a friendly community.
