Zancudo surf guide

Playa Zancudo is a laid-back beach located deep inside the Golfo Dulce, right by a large river mouth. It's a nice spot for those looking to escape the busier surf areas. While it may not have the biggest waves, it offers a chill vibe and decent options when the conditions are right. Many beginner surfers find it appealing due to its mellow atmosphere and reasonably priced beachfront accommodations. It's common to see both novice surfers and seasoned riders enjoying the waves here.

The surf at Zancudo can be pretty enjoyable when the swell is coming from the South or SouthWest, especially around low to mid tide. On good days, it can handle swell sizes of about 1ft (0.3 meters), offering both left and right beach breaks. For those just getting started, the waves are generally small and soft, making it a friendly environment for new surfers. However, high tide tends to make the waves even softer, and low tide can bring shorter, dumpy waves that are just a bit overhead. Up near the river mouth, you'll find some longer left-hand sandbars that can be fun, while the southern stretch of the beach, particularly Playa Pilon, can see slightly bigger waves. This part has some left points like Rancho del Mar and Punta Salea that offer a quieter surf experience compared to the crowds at Pavones.

Besides the surf, Playa Zancudo is more known for its great fishing opportunities, so if you're into that, you're in for a treat. The area has a relaxed vibe, and itโ€™s perfect for taking it easy after a day in the water. Be sure to check the conditions regularly to find the best times to paddle out.
