Zancudo surf guide
Surf: Playa Zancudo is a beautiful beach sheltered far inside the Golfo Dulce near a large rivermouth. It can have a decent wave when swell size and direction are right, but is generally small and soft for beginners especially at high tide. Low tide is suckier and shorter dumpy waves up to a little overhead. Up near the rivermouth can build up some long lefthand sandbars, while the southern end of the town sees more size. Playa Pilon at the far southern end of the beach faces a few left points at Rancho del Mar and Punta Salea that provide a quiet alternative to the crowds at Pavones and often lines-up almost as well, providing the SW swell is pumping.
Environment: More known for great fishing than surfing, but with nice reasonably priced beachfront accommodation and mellow waves it is popular with new surfers.
