Overview
Batts Rock is a rock-ledge reef on the west coast of Barbados, a clean A-frame peak that's well known among Bridgetown locals. It breaks both left and right, with powerful, hollow, fast lefts the standout. Of the west coast breaks it's the most reliable, though this side of the island only really comes to life on the biggest north swells.
When It Works
Batts Rock is usable from 0.9 m / 3 ft to 2.4 m / 8 ft. It draws swell from northwest through northeast, with north swell the best match. Consistency can be hit or miss, since the west coast needs a solid north swell to break at all, so it pays to watch for the windows when everything lines up.
Wind and Tide
Look for southeast offshore wind, with the easterly trades tending to keep the peak clean. The reef can work through most of the tide, and a rising tide is generally the better call.
Local Tips
The wave suits intermediate surfers. Expect a busy lineup when it's on, and keep in mind that on this coast even a small pack of surfers feels crowded.
