Tropicana surf guide
Surf: Speedy left barrels over urchin-covered, fire coral reef makes Tropicana a treacherous left for experts only, who usually choose high tide for their tube time. There are more challenging reefs up towards Speightstown like Fort and Sandridge.
Environment: Busy when the barrels are bombing.
Surf: General: A barreling left located on the west coast of Barbados. Very shallow with live fire coral and urchins so best to surf on the mid and higher tides. Needs a solid N or NNW swell to break but can be one of the best waves on the island when the swell and tide align. Can get crowded when it is good.
Tides: Higher tides
Size: Chest high-overhead+
Wind: E or NE; trade winds are offshore
Swell: NNW
Bottom: Fire coral and urchins.
Paddling: Not too bad.
Spot Rating: Shallow, barreling wave.
Access: Head north from Bridgetown along the west coast. About mid-way up the west coast you will see a church on the left hand side. Pull into the parking lot for the church and out front is Tropicana.
Crowds: Crowd Factor: Can get crowded when it breaks.
Local Vibe: If it is working the vibe can be heavy.
Environment: Pretty good.
Hazards: Sharp, shallow reef.
Season: Winter
