Belongas is a relatively isolated surf spot that offers a unique experience for surfers looking to escape the crowds. Located in a remote area, it’s not the easiest place to get to, but it can be rewarding when conditions are right. It’s definitely a spot for those who like adventure and don’t mind a little extra travel to find some decent waves.
The surf here can be pretty fun when the SSW swell hits just right, especially with E or NE winds. You’ll find a decent left that works well at mid tide, suitable for intermediate surfers. The wave is a bit racy, featuring some tuck sections that keep things interesting. The right-hander across the bay also gets good but needs a lot of south swell and northwest winds during the wet season to be worthwhile. If you explore deeper into the bay, you might come across more options, including the Meang reef which can have some slower lefts and rights under the right wind and tide conditions.
Belongas handles swell sizes around 3 ft (about 1 meter) and prefers a swell direction from the South, Southeast, or Southwest. It's a reef break, so keep that in mind when paddling out. This spot can be a bit sharky, so always stay aware of your surroundings while you’re out there.
