More about Black Point surfspot

General: Black Point is a left reefbreak that runs off the top of the point at Kaiko's, located near Ka'alawai Beach. Black Point is actually not a proper point, as there are left and right peaks scattered along the reef's length. These distinctions, however, make for many fun wave options when there is a decent S swell hitting Oahu -- barrel sections, corners, ramps and open faces can all be had. Tides: Medium Size: Head high-2X overhead Wind: Calm or offshore from WNW to N to ENE, with N as straight offshore. Swell: Anything from the SE to SW. E tradeswell gets in pretty well too. Bottom: Reef Paddling: Not too bad, but you can get caught inside on a bigger set, where there is the risk of getting washed into the rocks. Spot Rating: Average most of the time but gets super fun, especially when the trades go light and a solid swell is running.

Best suited for avid to advanced surfers.

There's a short way by entering off rocks, which can be difficult during a size-able swell. Or, there's a easy way by entering on the beach, but it's a long paddle out and around to the point.

Summer. From around April through October.

Crowd Factor: Not very crowded usually, but can get pretty crowded during a fun-size swell and lighter trades on the weekends. Local Vibe: Usually mellow. Be cool and keep it that way.

Pristine.

Rocks, reef, currents, sharks.
