Vero Beach Pier surf guide

Vero Beach Pier used to be a popular spot for surfers, but it has changed a lot over the years. The pier has been removed, taking most of the good sandbars with it. Now, the surfing here is more hit or miss along this pretty straight section of beach. You'll need to take a decent walk from the public car parks that are located either north or south of where the old pier stood.

The surf at Vero Beach Pier works best with a northeast swell, but you can also catch waves when it’s coming from the north or southeast. It can handle swell sizes starting at about 2 ft (0.6 meters) quite well, breaking over sand. The waves tend to be beach breaks, offering rides that go left and right. If you’re looking for optimal conditions, aim for mid tide and winds coming from the west, which can help improve the wave quality. This spot is a decent option for beginners, so if you’re just getting the hang of it, you might find it suitable for some practice.

While the area isn't as notable for its sandbars as it once was, you can still have an okay session if the conditions align. Just be ready for a walk to find the best spots and check the surf report beforehand to make sure you're not wasting your time. It’s always a good idea to go with friends when exploring less familiar areas.
