Choralillo surf guide

Choralillo is located on the southern part of a desert headland just after Mejillones, the last town of any size north of Antofagasta. This spot is not very crowded and offers a left point break that's known for being a fun playground for surfers looking to practice their skills. It’s one of those places where you can enjoy the surf without dealing with big crowds.

When it comes to surfing at Choralillo, the optimal swell direction is from the southwest, but it also handles swells from the south and northwest. You can expect the waves to be fun, especially when the swell size is around 4 feet (about 1.2 meters). The break works over uneven reef, making it essential to be mindful of where you paddle out. The left-hand waves are suitable for intermediate surfers, and they can ride well during low, mid, and high tide. If you’re planning your session, the best wind direction is from the east.

While you're out there, keep an eye out for wave sailors and kiters who sometimes make the trip from the calmer waters behind Isla Santa Maria. This adds a bit of activity to the area but don't let it distract you from the great waves. Overall, Choralillo can be a solid spot if the conditions line up right.
