Currumbin Alley is a popular surf spot located on the Gold Coast, renowned for its long, right-hand waves. The spot is well-protected from the strong southeast winds, making it a reliable choice for those looking to catch some surf. The atmosphere can get quite busy, as it attracts a mix of surfers using different types of boards, from longboards to SUPs and even kiteboards, which can make for a crowded wave. It's generally best with southeast swells and offers a decent ride for surfers of various skill levels, although you won't find many barrels here.
The waves at Currumbin Alley tend to peel lazily over a sandy bottom, with optimal swell directions coming from the east and also handling northeast and southeast swells. It’s common to find fun rides at around 3 feet (about 0.9 meters), and the area works well with southwest winds and tides that range from low to high. It's an intermediate-friendly spot, although the rip that runs northwards can make paddling out a bit tough during moderate swells. Many surfers opt to start their sessions from the beach or jump in off the rocks at Elephant Rock when the conditions are smaller.
Just north of the Alley, including around Palm Beach, you'll find plenty of less-crowded peaks if the main spot feels too busy. This can be a solid option when you're looking to escape the crowds and still enjoy decent waves. Keep an eye on the tides since they can affect how well the waves break across the rivermouth.
