Cabarita surf guide

Cabarita, also known locally as Bogangar, is a laid-back surf spot located on the North Coast. It’s a pretty consistent spot that often attracts surfers looking for a bite-sized wave experience. The area has a chill vibe and brings together a mix of locals and visitors who enjoy its easy-going atmosphere.

The waves here work best with a south-east swell, although you can also catch decent rides with swells coming from the north-east and south. It handles smaller days well, starting at around 1ft (0.3m) and can go well beyond double overhead when conditions are right. You’ll find point breaks that mostly peel to the right. The reef and sandbars can create some fun waves, especially on low to mid tide, although those chopping walls can sometimes be a bit fat and tricky. If you want to avoid the crowds, head over to the backside in the lee of Norries Head, where some A-Frames can show up along the sandbars stretching down to Hastings Point.

This spot is great for beginners looking to improve their skills. While it’s generally an easy surf, just be mindful that at high tide the waves can get too full unless there’s a bit more size in the swell. For those looking for some fun surf sessions without too much drama, Cabarita could be a solid choice.
