Long Beach (Cape Peninsula) surf guide

Long Beach, located on the Cape Peninsula, is a popular surf spot known for its scenic beauty and wave potential. It faces north, which makes it a go-to location when the wind is coming from the south. The beach offers a long stretch of sand that draws in surfers looking for a solid session, especially when it’s working well. It can get pretty crowded, especially on good days, but there’s usually room to find a wave.

The surf here mainly produces lefts and rights, with the best conditions found when the swell is coming from the west or south. Long Beach handles swell sizes up to around 4 feet (1.2 meters) and is suitable for intermediate surfers looking to challenge themselves. The waves break over a mix of uneven reef and sand, creating fast, hollow walls that can lead to some good rides. However, be aware that it stops working at high tide, so it’s best to plan your session for low to mid tide to catch the best waves. Bodyboarders often enjoy the sandy shore break, especially further down at Krans right.

The beach is notorious for holding some serious size when the conditions are right, but that also means you'll be sharing the lineup with others. If there’s a south-westerly wind, it can really clean up the surf, making for better rides. Just keep an eye on the tide if you're heading out, as it can change how the waves break significantly.
