Norte surf guide
Norte is a surf spot located in Ilheus that stretches for 50km, making it one of the most consistent beaches in the area. It features a range of waves suited for various skill levels and is known for its low tide barrels. The beach offers multiple access points, with the road running parallel to the Rio Almada, allowing surfers to find their preferred spot along the coastline.
The optimal swell direction here is east, but it's also good for north-east and south swells. Norte can handle swell sizes starting at 1ft (0.3m), making it accessible for beginners. The waves break over sand, and both left and right waves can be caught here. The best conditions usually come with a low or mid tide, especially when there’s a west wind blowing, which helps shape the waves nicely.
Surfers can expect variable grade beach breaks, which means you'll find a mix of easy and more challenging waves depending on the day. It's a great spot for beginners to practice due to the consistent nature of the waves, especially in the right conditions.
