Pango Point, also known as Pounders, is a surf spot that features a coral reef setup. It’s located in a place that gets pretty good southeast swells, and it's best surfed during mid to high tide. With its specific wave conditions, it can be decent for surfers looking for something a bit different, although it may not always live up to expectations.
The waves here typically break left over the live coral, and surfers can expect speeds along the line when the conditions are right. It generally handles small to moderate swells, usually around 3 ft (about 0.9 meters) but can work up to double overhead on bigger days. The optimal swell direction is southeast, with additional swells from the east and south being acceptable. For the best experience, lookout for conditions with glassy water or a light northeast wind; otherwise, the day might not be all that great. Beginners should steer clear, as it’s more suitable for intermediate surfers who can handle a bit of power.
Apart from the wave action, Pango Point can get a bit tricky with aggressive polyp growth near the take-off zone, so be prepared for some sections where the wave shuts down suddenly. If you know what you’re doing and pick the right conditions, it can deliver a fun session, but don't get too caught up in the excitement—it's not a guarantee every time you head out.
