Shipwreck surf guide

Shipwreck is a surf spot located in a beautiful bay, surrounded by cliffs that help cut the wind. It can get pretty busy with local campers, especially between July and September, but usually, there are not too many surfers in the water. Accessing the beach can be tricky; you’ll want to leave your car by the end of the track. If you're planning to venture further down the bay, only 4WD vehicles can handle the rough terrain.

The surf here usually works best with a northeast swell and can handle sizes starting from about 1ft (0.3m). You’ll find beach breaks that can produce both left and right waves. When it’s small, there are broken up peaks scattered around, making it alright for intermediate surfers. However, as the swell picks up to 6ft (1.8m), it can become pretty rippy and messy. For optimal conditions, low to mid tide is preferable, and east winds are the way to go.

Finding the right path down to the beach can be a bit of a challenge. Once you’re in Pajara, it’s best to ask for directions. Follow the rocky track that runs beside the riverbed, and make sure to head left up the hill until you spot the wreck. If you're into camping, make sure to get permission, as it’s allowed in the area.
