More about Tocones surfspot

General: You'll be lucky enough to even see this myth of a wave break, let alone pull into one of its death-defying barrels and survive the experience unscathed. If you're standing in the entry/exit channel at Aviones, look to the east for the shallow piece of reef that breaks waves close to shore. It usually just looks like dry reef, but on swells of a certain size and direction, which seem to have little reason at times, it turns into one of the most lethal little nuggets in PR. It's a fully sucking righthand hole shot, only 30 to 40 yards at best, but about the most intense section imaginable, with razor-sharp, urchin-infested reef only inches under your board. The consequences of not making a wave at Tocones are very serious. Tides: Low Size: Head high-overhead+ Wind: South Swell: NNW Bottom: Reef Paddling: Depends on the size of the surf. Spot Rating: A bit sketchy but can produce good barrels.

Advanced to psycho depending on the swell.

Park right there and give the locals a couple bucks, you're parking in their front yard, amigo.

Late summer and fall for tropical cyclone swells but late fall through early spring for consistency.

Crowd Factor: Not normally. Local Vibe: Not bad if you give respect.

Not bad.

Shallow lava reef.
