Boiling Pot is a surf spot known for its rocky take-offs and a mix of sandy sections. Located near a car park, the spot can get crowded, especially with beginners looking to catch a wave. When conditions are right, the area can offer some decent rides, but it doesn’t always live up to the hype.
The best waves at Boiling Pot show up with headhigh to overhead Northeast swells (1.5 to 3 meters). The right direction is essential, as it handles swell sizes starting from 2ft (0.6 meters) up, breaking over boulders and sand. When you’re out there, you’ll find a point break that generally peels to the right. Low to mid tides are preferable to keep you clear of the rocks, and the winds from the south help keep the waves clean. It’s worth noting that this spot is best suited for intermediate surfers due to the sucky nature of the take-off.
While you’re surfing, keep an eye out for the crowds. This area attracts a mix of tourists, locals, and longboarders, so be ready to navigate around them. If you manage to find some space, there’s a shoulder section that could connect you to Johnsons and eventually lead you towards First Point. Just remember to be respectful out there and not take any drop-ins lightly, as that could lead to some pretty heated moments on the water.
