Dumps surf guide
Surf: General: In the desolate countryside of the Makena Coast on the southern corner of Maui is Dumps, a lefthand reef point that can get really good on a sizable swell. Dumps breaks fast and offers up barrel sections on moderate to large swells. On smaller swells, Dumps becomes significantly slower and fatter. Surfers can expect offshore winds almost daily -- though sometimes they blow so strong that surfing becomes difficult.
Tides: Low to medium
Size: Head high-3X overhead-plus
Wind: Calm or offshore from NE to SE, with E as straight offshore. Even SSE to S is ok.
Swell: Well exposed to SSW to SW, which are most common -- shadowing on S swells. The much more rare, larger wintertime WNW swells that slip under Kauai/Ni'ihau can also get in.
Bottom: Reef
Paddling: Paddle out fairly long. Point break, so longer the rides then longer the paddle.
Spot Rating: Can get really good on a solid SSW-SW swell with a barrel, but average or below on small days.

Crowds: Crowd Factor: Light to moderate, depending on quality of surf and day of week, hit or miss.
Local Vibe: Usually mellow, unless its firing.
Environment: Pristine.
Hazards: Reef, especially on lower tides.
Season: Summer
