Lagtoua is about an hour's drive south and just over the Tropic of Cancer. This spot is near a big fishing village and features two long, right point breaks that run along dune-backed points. It's a decent spot that picks up plenty of swell and can handle sizes starting from 2ft (0.6m) up. Travelers often camp in their 4WDs on the beach, making it a convenient surf getaway.
The optimal swell direction here is Northwest, but it also works well with swells coming from the West and North. The waves break over an uneven reef and sand, providing a mix of conditions. You're looking at mostly right-point waves, and it's best to surf during low to mid or high tide. This spot is suitable for intermediate surfers who can handle varying conditions.
If you plan to camp nearby, remember that the wind tends to blow best from the East, so keep that in mind when checking the forecast. Just 30 km back up the coast is Porto Rico, where you can find some good wind protection from the high cliffs. However, be cautious and stick to the tracks since there are still mines in the area.
